Victoria Golf Club was founded in 1893 and describes itself as the oldest 18-hole golf course in Canada in its original location. Its course follows the coastline in Oak Bay, with sections running beside Beach Drive and the ocean.
The attraction is larger than golf architecture. The setting, historic clubhouse and connection to Oak Bay make the club part of the neighbourhood's identity. It is private, so access is not the same as booking a normal public tee time.

Cordova Bay is an Audubon Sanctuary and has invested heavily in environmental management. The course notes a vegetable garden that supplies its restaurant and a growing fleet of electric maintenance equipment.
One practical note for fall 2026: the course is completing the second phase of a major irrigation replacement, and some holes may be altered while that work is underway. Check current conditions before booking.
Olympic View: waterfalls and West Shore scenery
Olympic View Golf Club is on the West Shore and plays through rolling, tree-lined terrain with lakes and waterfalls. The course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout measuring about 6,600 yards.
Its 17th hole is the signature visual, finishing at a green backed by a 60-foot waterfall. The course's setting makes it appealing to visitors who want a round that feels immersed in the landscape rather than close to an urban centre.
Olympic View is also close to rural Colwood and Metchosin, which makes it easy to combine golf with a drive through some of the region's acreage and estate areas.
Highland Pacific: elevated views close to the city
Highland Pacific Golf sits between Victoria and the West Shore, overlooking the Olympic Mountains, Strait of Juan de Fuca and Thetis Lake Park. It is a public championship course designed for year-round play.
The location is one of its strengths. You can reach it quickly from much of Greater Victoria while still getting a course that feels surrounded by rock, forest and elevated views.
It is a good choice for a visitor who wants one memorable round without building an entire resort weekend around golf.

Victoria Golf Club offers history and a private oceanfront setting. Bear Mountain gives you two resort courses and the easiest golf getaway. Cordova Bay is relaxed and garden-like. Olympic View is dramatic and natural. Highland Pacific combines accessibility with elevated scenery.
If you are visiting specifically to compare places to live, do not spend the entire trip on the course. Drive the surrounding streets before or after the round. The difference between Oak Bay, Bear Mountain, Cordova Bay and the West Shore is far greater than the distance between them suggests.
Victoria's climate stretches the golf season
One reason golf becomes part of the local lifestyle is the relatively mild coastal climate. Courses around Greater Victoria often operate through much of the year, although frost, heavy rain and maintenance can still affect play. Winter golf is not the same as an August round, but many local golfers are happy to keep playing when courses elsewhere in Canada are closed.
If year-round access is important to you, ask each club or course about winter conditions, drainage, temporary greens and maintenance schedules. A course that looks perfect in July can feel very different in January.
